Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who worked for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her shrewd examination of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
